5 stars Even a non-techie can do it! 2010-07-30

We found this incredibly easy to set up (with the help of our 13 year old). We've used it from home and set it up at relatives' homes we've visited. Nice.

4 stars Better than Cable 2010-07-29

The Roku unit works very well. How well it works depends upon the strength of the signal from your wireless router. In other words, far away it may not stream well. With a good wireless signal it functions well as being directed to a cable provider. I've got Netflix and watch more movies now on the Roku than I do on DVDs. I still get DVDs from Netflix as not all their titles are available for immideate viewing. This isn't Roku's fault and I hope Netflix gets the message that they need to make more content available that's more current. Roku does give you a lot of other video options, including access to video rentals from Barns & Noble.

The only inconvenience to the Roku is that when you add one of the channels it carries a code comes up on the TV screen and you need to run to your computer, go to the channel's website, enter the code, give up some personal information to complete gaining access to the channel. It would be nicer if in setting up the Roku you entered your information ONCE and didn't have to do all this running back and forth. Anyway, once done it's really good.

I have my place wired and finally direct connected the Roku to my network instead of using the wireless feature. It works really well this way, and isn't any longer effected by low signal strength issues associated with any wireless installation encountered by a Roku or other wireless device.

Great little box (I thought it would be bigger...)
Set up was a piece of cake (love the wireless connection to my router (2 rooms away)).
It was a little hesitant at first, but I put that down to Netflix 'synching'.
It's been working great for a few weeks now - wouldn't be without it :)

4 stars Roku is fine, Netflix is not... 2010-07-20

First of all, the Roku device does everything it claims to do. The only issue I know of is that you need a ROUTER to make it work. A simple cable modem won't do it.

The issue I have is not with the device, but with Netflix. The majority of the movies and TV shows available are older or unknown to most. I'm not saying this is Netflix fault because I am sure there are contract issues and whatnot. I'm just saying that after a day there really wasn't much I was interested in watching.

Oh well.

5 stars Mighty movie box 2010-07-20

I love the Roku box. I have not yet gone to a high def tv so opted to go for the lower end Roku box. I have been extremely pleased with it. Setting up if you don't have a wireless network or a network hub can be challenging, but it was way overdue for me to get a wireless router. Once you have it connected to your netflix or amazon account you can start watching content right away. I have been a netflix customer for many years now and I love that this is another way to enjoy that service. The great thing about the Roku however is that you can get content from other sources as well. Operation is easy and you can continue to search and add movie to your queue right from the Roku. My only criticism is that I would like more options in terms of search feature. I'd like to be able to search for movies by actor or director and right now you can only search on the Roku by title.

In terms of picture quality, it is great. I have found a few netflix title that don't stream correctly, but I've discovered that is not the box, but the netflix item I'm trying to watch. This little box has already earned its purchase price within about the first week of owning it. I highly recommend the product!
